Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect in the first therapy session?
Your first therapy session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin identifying what brought you to therapy. We will discuss your current concerns, relevant history, relationships, stressors, and the goals you would like to work toward. I will also answer any questions you have about therapy and my approach. Together, we will begin developing a treatment plan that is individualized to your needs and goals.
What concerns do you treat?
I work with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults experiencing a variety of emotional and life challenges, including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, PTSD, adjustment difficulties, low self-esteem, family concerns, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges, school-related stress, and major life transitions.
How do you approach therapy?
I believe therapy should be collaborative, supportive, and individualized. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental environment where you feel comfortable discussing challenges and exploring patterns that may be keeping you from moving forward. I use a strengths-based and solution-focused approach while incorporating evidence-based therapeutic techniques to help clients develop insight, build coping skills, improve relationships, and create meaningful change.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. New Perspectives Psychotherapy & Counseling accepts several major insurance plans. Because insurance participation and individual benefits can vary, please contact the office to verify your specific plan and coverage before beginning treatment.
What types of therapy do you use?
I tailor treatment to each client's individual needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. Depending on the client and presenting concerns, treatment may incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, strengths-based therapy, play based therapy, Child-Parent Psychotherapy, and other evidence-based interventions. Together, we identify strategies that support your treatment goals and help you develop skills that can be used outside of therapy.
Do you work with children and teenagers?
Yes. I have extensive experience working with children and adolescents in both clinical and school settings. Therapy can help children and teens experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, behavioral concerns, peer difficulties, school stress, family changes, and life transitions.
My background as a School Social Worker and Director of Special Services gives me a strong understanding of the emotional, social, behavioral, and academic challenges children and adolescents may experience. When appropriate, I collaborate with parents to support progress while also maintaining a therapeutic environment where children and teens feel safe expressing themselves.
Do you work with parents?
Yes. Parenting can be rewarding, but it can also be overwhelming—particularly when a child is struggling emotionally, behaviorally, socially, or academically. I work with parents to better understand their child's needs, improve communication, establish healthy boundaries, strengthen relationships, and develop practical strategies for managing challenging situations.
I also provide support for new parents who may be experiencing stress, anxiety, changes in identity, relationship challenges, or difficulty adjusting to parenthood.
Do you offer virtual therapy in New Jersey?
Yes. I offer both in-person therapy in Denville, New Jersey, and secure virtual therapy for clients throughout New Jersey. Teletherapy can provide greater flexibility for clients who have busy schedules, attend college, work long hours, have transportation challenges, or simply prefer meeting from home.
For clients who prefer face-to-face therapy, my Denville office provides a private and comfortable setting for sessions.
